Biography
bernstein, the moniker of Cody Norenberg, lives and breathes electronic music. As a DJ he has been playing everything from techno to afrobeat for over a decade. His obsession with electronic music doesn't stop at being a DJ, in a little over five years he has established himself as a distiguished producer of exceptional, soulful music. bernstein's eclectic and unique DJ sets blend minimal and classic techno with neo and classic soul, early Brazilian funk, and mind-bending jazz that are exceeded only by his live exhibitions which offer a majestic invitation into deep, grooved, and soulful techno. Since moving to Japan in 2004 he quickly entered the ranks of Tokyo's vibrant techno movement after joining Nordform Records. bernstein has played in famed venues such as Sapporo's Precious Hall and Tokyo's Club Module along side a world-class list of artists including Portable, Ryan Elliott, Taeji Sawai, DJ Klock, and numerous others. bernstein has also extended his musical interests into a select group of collaborations that include Milleology, a relaxed soundscape creation with Yasuharu.Motomiya and DuoAufheben, a surreal lunge into emotion and mind through music with Waki. With bernstein's dedication and expansive knowledge into the world of techno and other music, he is certain to continue expanding hearts and minds wherever listeners appear. With an impressive release schedule last year on such labels as Tropic, White Label Music, and Nordform, bernstein offered his second release on RaceCarProductions entitled LastPlace which stole the limelight in the Winter of 2007 getting airplay from such visionaries as Alland Byallo. Most recently, bernstein offered us his first EP for RaceCarProductions entitled Matthew's EP. It is still just the beginning for this prolific and gifted artist.
