Biography
DJ / Audio Programmer / Sound artist Blake Shaw aka Holva has been a musician for the majority of his life. Receiving his first pair of belt drive turntables and a tiny two channel mixer as a gift for Hanukkah when he was merely ten years old (later picking up electronic music around the age of 14), mixing has become second nature to this Louisville native. After scoring his first gig at the age of 16, people quickly began taking notice of his unique style and he began playing at raves, clubs and parties all over the southern midwest. He quickly became known around the area for his ability to create rhythmicly obedient dancefloors, keeping the crowd in control with long, clean, intricate phrase to phrase mixing. After a while he started Shoryuken Tribe with his good friend Brandon Stewart ("Staticalpha") and began throwing a string of successful parties and coffee house chillout sessions in the Louisville area while working on events with promoters from all over the region.

As a sound artist Holva creates electroacoustic music for sound installation. He is working on incorporating sound art concepts into minimal tech-house with the goal being to create squeaky-clean and aesthetically interesting electroacoustic soundscapes, turning the dancefloor into a pulsating yet intricately rhythmic phenomenological sensorium. He is currently writing software utilizing the Max/MSP programming language for use with Ms. Pinky to further advance his DJ sets, as well as VST plug-ins for personal use, code-based interactive sound installations and algorithmic composition. Aside from all of this he is composing music for a modern dance performance choreographed by Meridith Belis, and an audio production arrangement for independent fashion designer Justine Siwula's upcoming fashion show. As you can see, he is quite the busy man. Residing in Vermont, he is majoring in electronic music/digital arts (composition, sound design, production, theory and programming) and political philosophy with an emphasis on Marxian theory and biopolitics while minoring in performance art at the very modern Bennington College.
